Because (apparently) I'm unable to stop "analyzing" things to death...

It was pretty good episode, even if pointy, killing hands/arms made me think "OMG, bastard kids of Wolverine!!!" *g*

The plot was ok and I'll let myself ignore few obvious holes in it. Looks like we may have two arcs in the series? I wouldn't mind.

But I still have problem with Gwen.
Despite terrible first season, I really want to like her. She has some great moments, occasionally, but most of them are ruined by her (blown to insufferable size) "humanity".
I get that she cares. That it pains her to watch people get hurt, that she wants to help everyone so badly. But it looks like, after all she's been through with Torchwood, she's still not learning. That sometimes you have to make hard decisions, life or death decisions, that concerns more than just you. I feel that Gwen is unable to see the bigger picture or maybe she just doesn't want to.
It's a paradox, but for me, in this episode Beth showed a lot more humanity than Gwen ever did.  By forcing others to kill her, Beth showed that she understood, that  when it's one life versus billions,  it's not really a question. No matter how hard it is to take this one life. And because Beth understood this, she gave them viable excuse. So they didn't have to do this with cold blood. Because, really, you don't keep a ticking bomb in your closet in a hope, that one day, maybe, you'll be able to disarm it.
The fact that Gwen can't understand this and can't make those kind of decisions, is the reason why she'll never be a good leader (and it's beyond me how they survived with her in this role, when Jack wasn't around).

To finish on a bit lighter note: Ianto totally cracked me up. He was positively giddy through the whole episode! I guess this means the date went well *g*

I totally agree with everything here - Gwen really annoys me with her preaching attitude - yeah okay we get it, she's the caring one, but they are seriously overplaying it and it's just becoming hella annoying.

Giddy! That is exactly the right word - and your theory about the reason? Bloody brilliant! XD

I suspect Jack made extra effort to make this date special. It's the only way I can explain Ianto (quite unusual) behavior :D

And did I ever mention how much I love your icon? *g*

I love this icon too - you can get others like it here: http://community.livejournal.com/tw_comic/profile

Completely agree with you about Gwen. Granted she was less annoying than usual, but as I've always felt, what use is her amazing humanity when they're nearly always dealing with aliens.

It's not even the fact, that they are dealing with aliens.
There is a saying I just remembered and it fits Gwen perfectly - she's trying to be more saint than a pope. And I have a constant problem with her, because she's doing this for the wrong reasons.
