IMDB says we'll get another "Dune" movie next year. There aren't any details yet, so it may still be dropped. But if they go with it, I hope like hell they'll finally make it right.

"Dune" was really not lucky so far. Lynch's version was not bad, all things considered, up until the last few minutes. When they screwed up everything. Because, seriously - rain?... Makes me go "WTF???" every time I'm watching it.
The SciFi version?... I don't even have the words. It was more than bad. It was hideous. Staring with acting and ending with the costumes. *shudders* Let's forget it even exists.

This is really amazing book (the whole Dune-verse is) and one of my all-time favorites. I want someone to finally do it's justice. I mean, it's not more difficult that "LOTR" and I happen to think that Peter Jackson did really good job.
I'm a pessimist, so I'll always expect the worse. But I'm really tired of cringing, while watching movies based on the books I love.

Dear Me,

We all know that reading is fun and all, but doing it for hours, up until the middle of the night, with no breaks? Bad idea. Your eyes won't appreciate it.

Sincerely,
Myself

...

I'm sure I'll remember not to do it. Until next time.

I'm way too lazy to keep them. Better take it one day at a time and see how it goes.

What I have to do in the next few days however, is to finish my card for Winter Challenge at [livejournal.com profile] art_bingo . My last prompt is "Ice Rain" and I still have only a vague idea what to make of it. And the deadline is the end of the year...

Then I should put more time into making icons for my [livejournal.com profile] scifi100 Cameron Mitchell challenge. I got only 18 so far and I'm not really happy with most of them. It's all Merlin's fault, of course (and the obsession is still strong *g*).

Speaking of Cameron: [livejournal.com profile] burningchaos wrote cute McMitchell ficlet, with totally awesome Daniel on the side. If you're Rodney/Cameron fan, you should definitely read it =) If you're not, go read it anyway. You'll see those two would be fantastic together!

Btw, I realized recently, that I read very little books this year. Highly unusual for me, but I blame all those great fandom writers =)
It's time I should catch up on the published stuff, though. I have a feeling I might have missed few really good books.
On that note, I decided it's time I finally order one more bookshelf, because I'm almost out of space.
This is how it looks right now )

The additional shelf will go where the arrows are, obviously. And I have no idea why I didn't make it for the whole wall from the start...

And now I'm going to make myself a cup of coffee, eat the rest of Christmas cake and read for a while :)

I've been on a sick leave for a few days now.

My back was bothering me so much that I finally went to the doctor on Tuesday. Turns out I have a spinal strain or something like this (no idea how it translates into English).
I'm grounded, not suppose to do anything strenuous. Not that I'm actually capable of it. It hurts to sit, it hurts to lay down. Thank God it's not that bad up when I'm up and walking.

I spend most of the time in bed or going for a short walks. I may try to go swimming on Saturday or Sunday, depending on how I feel.

All this free time let me read Twilight series in just few days. I've been squeeing and moaning to [livejournal.com profile] the_muppet through all my reading (but I don't feel guilty, it's totally her fault I'm slightly obsessed now *g*). I just finished Eclipse and I'm wondering what to do next with myself (since there's no more dazzling Edward to occupy me *g*)

Edit: this last sentence translates - please, find me something new to read. Please...

Meme, snagged from [personal profile] icarusancalion.

Because I'm a total bookworm.

Some of those titles/authors I don't even know. But maybe it's because The Big Read is US and I'm from another side of the pond?

Every time I'm listening to Concierto de Aranjuez something flips inside me. I don't know what it is about this piece, that I get so damn emotional. I don't even have any specific memories connected to it.

I'm re-reading  Prelude to Dune novels. And I'm falling in love with Duncan Idaho, all over again. It's been some time...

A week off work, and my eyes  didt'n get better yet.  If anything, they got worse.  I can spend like 10 minutes in front of a computer, before they start watering.
Forget TV (good thing there's nothing interesting there),  and I can't even put my new dvd to a proper use, since I'm not really able to concentrate on what I'm watching most of the time.
Pretty much the same with the books or the prints with fics.
I guess I should go to ophthalmologist, before it gets more serious.

On a bit brighter (and connected) note - there's a sell-out in a pretty big second-hand bookstore, and I plan to go tomorrow. For 30 PLN (approx. 10 USD) you can take as many books as you can carry. I hope I'll find something interesting there.

Oh, and I have one more thought why you-know-who in season 4 of SGA is a disaster.

If you haven't read "A Dirty Job" by Christopher Moore, yet - go, do it NOW!

I mean it.

A guy sitting across me in the bus, was reading a Harlequin.
Not your everyday view.
And I kept sneaking glances at him and wondering, whether his flush was purely natural, or an effect of what he was reading. *g*

Here's the big question: should I go, see "Eragon", before I read the book?
I try not to do this often, but I saw trailer, and my... Malkovich, Irons, Carlyle (there's only Alan Rickman missing *g*).

What do you think?

I'm sick and totally grounded and because there's only so much fics I can read in one day, I'm re-watching season 9 of SG-1.
Seems I've finally got some perspective or maybe I just got used to the idea of Jack-not-being-there. I really like Mitchell now. He's stubborn, reckless, but not careless, got enough sense of humor and heart on definitely right side. I also love how he interacts with Daniel. It brings memories of best Jack/Daniel moments, although it's so different. I can see why people started to slash them almost instantly. Me, I still see only (?) friendship there but who knows? Maybe one day I'll read some Daniel/Cameron, too.
Sam, on the other hand, I'm afraid it's one way track. Writers damaged this character so much in last years that there's nothing they can do to make me like her again. And this whole Jack/Sam mess is only half of the problem, maybe even less. It's just the character is so flat and boring. More like freshly sketched idea of a character than someone who was there for 9 years. It looks like writers run of ideas what to do with her and she just IS there, not really contributing anything important.
I don't know how often we gonna see Vala next season but I can only hope a lot. With all her irritating behaviour, she's irresistible and ALIVE. Not some simply good-looking, paper bimbo.
God, MUST.RESIST.SPOILERS. Not sure if I'm strong enough, though.

***

And now something completely different. Robert Rankin "The Antipope". No matter how many times I read this - it never gets old.
